Climate Workshops & Support

I started working in the climate change space as a postgraduate, studying climate variability with Hadley Centre and ECHO climate modelling for my PhD. Since then, it has become a critical part of the education debate, and young people’s experiences in schools.

As a teacher-educator, I’m involved with the Royal Meteorological Society’s Education Committee; the National Climate Education Action Plan and the Climate Education & Skills Group, and am continually learning about how we can get better at this critical learning.

I’ve been thinking, writing and talking about how to make use of the resources (Teaching Resources, CogSciSci Conference, May 2024 and slide deck), models (Earth.NullSchool) and keeping up to date for teachers (IPCC AR6 Release and Coffee & Geography on AR6) ever since – and I’m always happy to support in conversations with colleagues about how to be involved in that space.

DfE/STEM Climate Ambassador

Since 2022, the Department for Education’s Sustainability & Climate Change Strategy has shaped the expectation for schools to be involved in four pillars of work:

  1. Climate education
  2. Green skills and careers
  3. Education estate & digital infrastructure
  4. Operations & supply chains

To support this work, I’m one of about a thousand trained volunteer (STEM) Climate Ambassadors, helping schools to put together their Climate Action Plans and think about sustainability in the wider sense of what’s needed.

Please do get in touch if I can help you – or make requests through the London Hub for the Climate Ambassadors.

EN-ROADS Climate Ambassador

As we move towards a world where identifying hopeful and realistic solutions is the aim, I think the ENROADs climate simulator is one of the best tools out there. My team have written about this in our work with trainee teachers, but it’s also a brilliant way of running workshops and interactive simulations to teach and train. These highly-interactive role-playing simulations give real insight in to the options on the table, and how participants can discuss and debate them. It’s fun, lively and learning happens with every step of the way!

As a certified Climate Interactive Climate Ambassador, I’ve led workshops for universities (including at the University of Oxford, the London Interdisciplinary School), schools and students (Royal Geographical Society and others) and corporate clients. This is a hugely powerful way to understand some of the mechanisms for change, and some of the challenges we face as we tackle the solutions available.

It’s ideal to understand COP negotiations and to work around the live conversations every November, offers a great insight for schools and groups, and is a powerful introduction to be included in any corporate training event with a sustainability focus.

I’m always delighted to work with schools, universities and group colleagues, and Learning & Development teams for corporate partnerships to explore options of how I can best work with your team’s needs. Please do get in touch to find out more, including pricing options.
